Rainbow rare cards are easily identifiable by their multi-coloured foil that replaces the usual colours of cards. Rainbow Pokemon Cards also fall into the “secret rare” category. They can be considered rare and go for as high as $2600. These Rainbow cards were first released as far back as 2017 with sets like “Sun & Moon” and “Sun & Moon Guardians Rising”.

The History of Rainbow Rare Pokemon Cards
In 2017 the first Rainbow Pokemon cards were released in the Sun & Moon Base set. In this set, the first 8 Rainbow rare Pokemon cards were created. These 8 Cards were Lurantis GX #150, Lapras GX #151, Espeon GX #152, Lunala GX #153, Umbreon GX #154, Solgaleo GX #155, Tauros GX #156 and Gumshoos GX #157. These 8 Cards were the first in what would become over 200+ valuable and stunning cards. The next sets that followed like “Sun & Moon Guardians Rising” and “Sun & Moon Burning Shadows” had 28 more Rainbow Rare Pokemon cards combined. Fast Forward to to 2023 while the newest Scarlet & Violet series hasn’t contained any Rainbow Cards they’re still some of the most recognisable and loved cards ever created.
How to Identify Fake Cards
Authentic Rainbow Rare Pokemon Cards can be very valuable but fake cards are worth close to nothing. That’s why It’s important to be able to check the authenticity of these cards. But with so many Rainbow Pokemon cards It can be extremely hard to tell the difference. Below is a Fake Card and some red flags to look out for.
Extremely visible scratches (much more visible in Fakes).
Smooth Surface with no texture.
Very off-centre.
Wrong shade of blue on the back.
Spelling errors.
Too much shine (light being reflected).
If you’re still unsure you can compare the Rainbow Pokemon Card to any other authentic Pokemon card and compare the back of the 2 cards. Make sure your authentic card has been purchased from a credible source when using this method.
