To win, you must defeat your opponent in a Pokemon card battle. Each player has a 60-card deck to use in their quest for victory. Both players can have 6 active cards, with 1 in the active position. Each player also has a discard pile and a deck. Additionally, each player has 6 prize cards given from their opponent. When you defeat your opponent's Pokemon, you can claim one of their prize cards.

Pokemon cards all have a few features. Each card has HP. Which represents how much damage they can take before being knocked out. All Pokemon have a type that could be Water, Fire, Electric, Grass, etc. Cards have a set of abilities and attacks in the centre of the card. Lastly, cards have resistance and weaknesses. This changes the damage applied to them in different instances.

There are a few key types of cards. These Pokemon cards are necessary for a successful game.

Basic Pokemon: Basic Pokemon are the cards you start with. These are usually the weakest cards. Nonetheless, these cards are usable immediately. Each Pokemon card has a type with its weaknesses and resistances. These are shown at the bottom of a card.

Stage 1 Pokemon: Stage 1 Pokemon are the evolved versions of basic cards. These cards have significant boosts in HP, attack and power. However, you can only use these cards by placing them on top of a basic Pokemon.

Stage 2 Pokemon: These cards are the final evolution of a card. However, not all cards have a stage 2 Pokemon card. Stage 2 cards are more powerful than the previous evolutions. And to use a Stage 2 Pokemon you must already have a Stage 1 Pokemon in play.

Energy Cards: Energy cards fuel your Pokemon’s attacks. Most attacks require a set amount of energy or sometimes a combination of different energy cards. You can only attack 1 Energy card per turn.

Trainer/Supporter/Item Cards: These cards have unique abilities that benefit your team. Some are forcing your opponent to make moves, dealing extra damage, or even allowing you to draw more cards. You can only use them once.

When you start you are given a hand of randomly selected cards. Each player takes turns attacking each other, drawing cards, using trainer and supporter cards, and attaching energy cards.

There are a few ways you can win the game. You can take all of your prize cards, knock out all of your opponent’s in-play Pokemon, or when your opponent runs out of cards to draw.

Consider your skill level when choosing a deck. Beginners should start with one of the pre-constructed decks. For instance, the Giratina VSTAR deck closely resembles one of the most powerful decks in use today. As you gain expertise, enhance your deck by making a few modifications, turning it into a formidable contender even the top players employ

For example, you can enhance the Giratina VSTAR deck by incorporating an extra Giratina V and Giratina VSTAR. Replace Snorlax with a Radiant Greninja and convert some energy cards to Jet energies. Also, modify the trainer cards for optimal performance. These adjustments will give you a fully functional Giratina VSTAR Lost Zone deck.

You can do this with any deck. Once you’re ready, you can check the most powerful decks and see what changes you need to make.

There are numerous ways to buy Pokemon cards and decks in Pokemon TCG Live. Firstly, there is an in-game store where you can exchange Crystals for different cards, packs, and decks. Crystals are earned by completing quests and playing the game.
